1st African Woman to win the WEF Crystal Award
Yvonne Chaka Chaka became the 1st woman in Africa to win the World Economic Forum’s Crystal Award which is given to successful artists who have used their art to “improve the state of the world” according to WEF. Miss Chaka Chaka who is a popular singer/songwriter and Goodwill Ambassador for the Roll Back Malaria Partnership won the award during the opening ceremony of the WEF’s 2012 annual meeting in Davos, Switzerland earlier this year. She was commended for her tireless work for major global health issues affecting women and children and using her voice to draw attention to these issues.
