African innovations – The iCow

Kenyan farmer Su Kahumbu  has invented a cellphone application that helps farmers living in remote areas of Kenya and other African regions. The application, which works on the basic phones used by the farmers, sends reminders of milking schedules, immunisation dates, breeding/farming tips, pricing and other farming information. The app has improved the lives and businesses of the farmers and their livestock. This application won best app in Africa in 2010 in the Apps4Africa Awards.
