Shujaaz

Shujaaz is a monthly Kenyan comic magazine written in Sheng, plus it has a radio show that launched in Kenya in February 2010 and won an International Digital Emmy Award in April of 2012. Shujaaz, a Swahili word meaning “heroes”, involves print, radio and sms media to get educational and empowering messages out to the youth of Kenya. The initiative reaches an audience of around 5 million young Kenyans and promotes social cohesion, youth participation in civic soceity and economic empowerment. Shujaaz FM is syndicated across 25 radio stations across Kenya and over 8 million copies have been distributed throughout Kenya since 2010. Shujaaz upped the anti by bringing the comic to life and creating Shujaaz TV, a show on Youtube made for the growing online audience of Kenya. See more images from the comic in our gallery here
