Famous blind singers from Mali

Amadou and Mirriam are singers from Mali who love experimenting with their music. The couple have successfully fused Mali’s traditional music with rock and electro, Egyptian and even Indian sounds and instruments. Amadou and Mirriam met at Bamako’s Institute for the Young and Blind where they discovered their interest in music and their love for each other. A year later they got married. The two are not just doing well in Africa but internationally, in 1986 the couple moved to Côte d’Ivoire and recorded several cassette albums . During this time they met Stevie Wonder, and the duo started playing at festivals around the world.
