Nigeria’s movie industry
Nigeria’s movie industry (Nollywwod) is the 3rd largest producer of movies in the world after the US (Hollywood) and India (Bollywood). The industry is estimated to be worth US$250 million and churns out in the region of well over a 1000 movies a year. Movies are sold on VCD/DVD or VHS for approx US$2 a unit. Their appeal stretches far beyond Nigeria. Nollywood films are proving popular all over English-speaking Africa and in the Diaspora. It is a totally self-sustaining industry that has developed over the last 13 years.
