Durban’s Sand Gang
There’s a vibrant culture and business of sand sculpting on Durban’s Golden Mile. Under the cover of night; talented sand artists build great sculptures of anything from skeleton and human figures laying on the beach to animals, cars, enlarged shoes and even the new national soccer stadiums built for the 2010 Soccer World Cup. One of the sculptors, Themba, specialises in skeleton and gorilla sculptures; while S’bo focuses on environmental issues like saving the Rhino and other endangered animals.
